More Imaginary Settings

We based our stories on a short film called Adrift. You can watch it on Literacy Shed. http://www.literacyshed.com/the-fantasy-shed.html

Our stories were set on animals just like the story in Adrift which is set in the back of a huge Whale. see some of our settings below.

Imaginary Settings

We did our literacy a little bit differently this week.
Instead of recording our writing in books or on whiteboards, we created Graffiti tables to make giant mind maps of all our fantastic descriptive language.
The children came up with some fantastic metaphors and similes to describe a range of settings.

Philosophy for Children: Pocket money debate

Year 4 debated whether pocket money should given to them or whether it should be earned today during a P4C session.

There were lots of good discussion points being made and lots of thought provoking ideas. One child said that they should have to earn their pocket money because it would prepare them well for the real world of work when they became adults. Another argued that children went to school all day and were far too tired to do chores and to earn their pocket money. Another agreed and said that pocket money was important to have because the children needed to learn about how to spend money sensibly.

All very sensible points for debate year 4.

What do the rest of you think?

Looking for habitats!

Look at Year 4 hunting for habitats in the garden. We looked for different habitats, the types of animals that might have lived in them and we also considered the characteristics of the different habitats.

Mummifying Tomatoes!

I am really looking forward to our multi-faceted learning this week, because one of the facets will be... mummifying tomatoes!!!

We will be treating our tomatoes as if they were the bodies of Ancient Egyptian Pharoahs.  What do you think we will be doing to them? What steps of mummification can you remember?

World Book Day!

What a  fantastic day we have had today for World Book Day.
The children looked absolutely fantastic in their outfits, and we've had a wonderful time doing different Roald Dahl related activities.

Making a Dam

As part of our Ancient Egypt topic work we have been finding out about the Aswan Dam and why it could be a good thing or a bad thing for people living in Egypt.

We then looked more closely at how the Aswan Dam works, and decided to make our own!

We chose materials that we thought would block the flow of water successfully, and carefully constructed our Dams to stop as much water coming through as possible.
